Glucose & Diabetes

Diabetes has become one of the most common lifestyle-related health conditions worldwide, affecting millions of people, and while modern medicine plays a vital role in diagnosis and treatment, many individuals are exploring complementary approaches to support healthy blood sugar levels.
In Ayurveda, diabetes is associated with a group of urinary disorders and is traced to an imbalance in the body's doshas—particularly Kapha- along with impaired digestion (Agni) and the accumulation of metabolic toxins (Ama), which contribute to the development of this condition.
Rather than focusing solely on blood glucose numbers, Ayurveda emphasizes restoring balance throughout the body by addressing digestion, metabolism, nutrition, physical activity, stress, and daily lifestyle habits. It uses several herbs that support healthy glucose metabolism, including gurmar (the sugar destroyer) and bitter melon (blood sugar balancer). It also uses herbs and spices such as fenugreek, amla, turmeric, and neem, which are antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, support digestion, and have cleansing and scraping properties.
Ayurveda considers food one of the most powerful forms of medicine, and a balanced diet emphasizing organic, local foods and minimizing processed foods plays an important role in supporting healthy blood sugar levels.
A key to overall balance is establishing dinacharya (daily practices) that foster regularity and presence, including regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy body weight. Practicing yoga postures that promote flexibility and circulation, along with meditation and breathing practices, helps manage stress, and prioritizing adequate sleep influences hormone levels that affect blood sugar regulation.
Anyone with diabetes should continue taking prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by their healthcare provider, and working with a clinical holistic practitioner is imperative to determine the best practices, foods, herbs, etc., for you.
If you are experiencing any imbalances, the first step is to have an Ayurvedic evaluation to determine your constitution and current state of health. You can schedule your complimentary phone appointment to discuss your concerns and determine the best course of action for your health.
