Respiratory Concerns

There are many respiratory concerns, but the most common ailments are colds, allergic reactions, infections like pneumonia and bronchitis, or overall weakness. More severe illnesses can include asthma, obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, and cancer. However, the most common are allergies, which stem from changes in the seasons, what we ingest, house dust and mites, mold, pets, pollen, pollution, and smoke.
The lungs are a complex apparatus that expands and contracts thousands of times daily, bringing in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide.
Ayurveda and Yoga pay great attention to the respiratory system because the life force (prana) is closely associated with the breath. Prana is vital because it carries our awareness, intelligence, and presence, and, along with our food, ensures our daily existence.
The first step in Ayurveda is to establish the individual’s constitution (Prakruti) and their current state of health balance (Vikruti), which determines if the imbalances are hereditary, seasonal, or allergic. Then, a treatment program is designed based on this information.
Where Western medicine uses steroids and other medications to help relieve symptoms, Ayurveda looks to the root cause of the disharmony. It then employs holistic practices, including lifestyle adjustments, dietary choices, herbal remedies, and five-sense therapies, to achieve health and balance.
Additionally, cleansing the body can be a significant factor in removing toxins and achieving balance. Ayurveda uses the Panchakarma modality (detox and rejuvenation process) to rid the body of allergens and to bring balance. This treatment can be performed at a designated Panchakarma center in the US or India, or it can be conducted as an outpatient from home, accommodating your regular work schedule and daily life.
If you are experiencing any imbalances, the first step is to have an Ayurvedic evaluation to determine your constitution and current state of health.
