Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition marked by facial redness, pimples, swelling, and small, superficial dilated blood vessels.  The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but triggers can include hot drinks, spicy foods, alcohol, temperature extremes, sunlight, stress, and specific cosmetic products.

The four main types are erythematotelangiectatic (ETR), papulopustular, phymatous, and ocular.

Vascular is erythematotelangiectatic (ETR) characterized by facial redness and visible blood vessels.

The inflammatory types include the papulopustular and phymatous types, which present with bumps, thickening, pus-filled spots, and acne.

Ocular affects the eyes, causing redness, irritation, and potentially leading to vision problems.

The Ayurvedic perspective understands that rosacea is an imbalance of the Pitta dosha (hot, sharp, light, and unstable), which is responsible for the heat, transformation, and metabolism of bodily functions.
