Date-Almond Snacks

Ayurvedically, these date-almond snacks are cooling in nature, nutritive, energizing, satisfying, and grounding. They contribute to peace of mind, a healthy reproductive system, and a strong Ojas (immune system).

Ayurvedically, dates are sweet, cooling, heavy, and energizing. They balance Vata and Pitta; however, due to their sugar content, moisture, and density, they may increase Kapha tendencies. They are Sattvic (balancing for the mind), are naturally antioxidants, benefit heart health, act as natural laxatives, and help balance blood sugar due to their low glycemic index.

Almonds are sweet, heating, oily, heavy, and nutrient-dense, with an excellent source of healthy fats, fiber, protein, Vitamin E, magnesium, copper, vitamin B2, manganese, and phosphorus. They help maintain skin moisture and nourish all seven dhatus (tissues), especially Shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue). Almonds are Vata balancing and are suitable for some Pitta conditions, but their density and heaviness can increase Kapha. Soaking and peeling are recommended but not required, but HERE is a link with instructions.

Equipment Needed

- Bowl for tossing the nuts with oil and spices.

- Cooling sheet for roasted nuts

Ingredients

Medjool Dates

Almonds Peeled

Olive Oil

Salt

Spice Blend (optional)- Spices can help with the digestive process and are an excellent addition to the recipe. Below is one that I use.

Digestive Spice Blend

Corriander, Cumin, Fennel, Turmeric, and Dill (any combination is acceptable)

Procedure

1. Toss the almonds in a small amount of oil, then add the spice blend.

2. Place the almonds on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes, until browned. Set aside to cool.

3. Cut the dates in half (lengthwise), remove the pit, and then cut through.

4. Stuff the date with the roasted almond in the date, and mold it back together.
