Arjuna

Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) means "white" or "shining" and is named for its bark, which literally reflects light wherever this large tree grows. It is also associated with Arjuna, a hero from the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata. The pale white bark of the Arjuna tree naturally sheds each year, and with its new skin, it symbolizes new life, highlighting its ability to extend life, protect the elderly, and strengthen the heart.

It is regarded as a top heart tonic that enhances circulation while helping to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is rich in compounds that reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in blood vessels, support detoxification, promote liver regeneration, and soothe the digestive tract. It also bolsters the "emotional heart," fostering courage, love, and resilience, especially during periods of grief or emotional stress. When used as a paste, its astringent properties assist in managing acne and improving skin elasticity.

Cautions:

Because of its potential blood-thinning properties, it may increase the risk of bleeding or bruising, especially in people taking blood-thinning medication. It can also lower blood sugar, so diabetics should monitor their levels carefully.
