Valerian

Valerian

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a herbaceous perennial plant in the family Caprifoliaceae and has a long history of medicinal use for insomnia, nervous tension, and digestive issues.

Valerian is a heavy herb that is used by many to help with sleep but overuse can cause drowsiness and vivid dreams, and mental dullness.

Long-term use may cause dependence or withdrawal symptoms, so gradual dose reduction is recommended. Valerian may interact with medications affecting the central nervous system and should be used cautiously during pregnancy or lactation.

Dosage:

Because of its heaviness and sedative properties, you should start off slowly.  The ranges of dosages are 3 grams to 9 grams per day, and I suggest starting with 2 capsules an hour before bed
