Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) is a medicinal herb and cooking spice with metabolic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects.
It benefits diabetes management because of its hypoglycemic actions, which increase insulin secretion in pancreatic cells, lower blood glucose levels, and reduce cholesterol, helping to manage type II diabetes and improve glucose metabolism. It reduces fat cells by inhibiting the absorption of dietary fats and carbohydrates and helps suppress appetite while boosting calorie burning. It is known to boost testosterone in men (improving libido) and increase estradiol in women, while also helping to alleviate menopause symptoms and being highly effective in increasing breast milk production in lactating mothers. Rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, it combats oxidative stress, protects cells from aging, and reduces inflammation, which is beneficial for conditions like arthritis. Finally, it is high in fiber and has low starch content, which reduces the glycemic index.
