Hawthorne berries are small, tart, nutrient-dense fruits from the Crataegus genus (rose family).
They are best known as being a "heart tonic" strengthening heart contractions, improve blood flow, and help treat angina.
They boost digestion, stimulate bile production, and reduce stomach bloating, and being rich in polyphenols, they fight free radicals, reduce inflammation, and have mild sedative effects that can help calm nerves.
Cautions:
Hawthorn may interact with heart medications (e.g., digoxin, blood pressure drugs), so consult your healthcare professional for guidance.
